The Rise & Fall of Lazymans Traffic

September 7, 2009

The Rise…

This is domain I registered about 2-3 years ago, thinking that “one day” I’d get around to doing something with it. I had no idea just what, I just happened to think it was a catchy name.

It lay dormant for a year so so, the I installed a Wordpress blog & tried to theme it around SEO techniques & traffic generation in general.

Next step was to populate it with precisely related articles courtesy of a great service called My Article Network. Not entirely unique (as in written by me), but unique in as each article in the network is “spun”. This service dripped in 1-2 articles a day, & to be honest I kind of forgot about it for a month or so.

Another great feature of this service it the ability to post a few of your own articles for others to pick up as I did, which of course gives a healthy variety of back links.

I happened to be checking some stats on other sites one day & thought I’d take a peek at LazymansTraffic. Wow, it was getting decent traffic, & the linking efforts must have paid off, it was sporting a PR3 even.

The Fall…

Time to monetize it. Here I think was the beginning of my sites demise.  Thinking of catching some decent affiliate commissions I found a service that drip fed “handpicked” ClickBank offers, in a “storefront” format. It looked fine & seemed to complement the them quite well.
Shortly after though I noticed the traffic actually halted. I never thought much of it for a week or so (Google Sandbox maybe), then did a check of it’s indexing. None, nada, zilch!

This from a site that had hundreds of pages indexed a month ago!

First step was to remove that storefront & re submit it to Google for re-inclusion. I checked it about a week, the scrutiny had been done, but still de-indexed.

So today’s step was to remove every other post that was commercial in nature. So now there’s just articles, & a couple of links to Twitter Rocket. I’ll resubmit it & check back in a week & see how it’s doing.
If someone can see anything I can do help, feel free to comment, as one thing I’m learning, Google sure as hell wont!

Stay tuned…
